Says that a microbial growth accumemlates on a wet evaporator coil and acts as an insulator. it reduces heat transfer from the air. As little as 0.05" build-up of a stickey, dirty substance on the cooling coil can cut efficencies up to 32%. In case a system will need to operate longer to achieve the set temperature, wasting energy and increasing wer and tear on the unit.
